Pay Tribute to Your Family's Elders

Down through the ages, many societies have honoured their forebears with the tradition of passing on the family history through stories of how their elders lived and what they endured to bring the family to where it is.

Prior to the printing press, of course, the oral tradition was the only way that people knew how they came to be. Here at SeniorHome.com, we'd like to revive the tradition of family legacy story-telling. It's a way that younger generations can understand their history and appreciate what brought them the opportunities they enjoy today. And it provides a simple, fun approach to honouring our elders for the interesting and challenging lives they have led.

Our invitation is simply to have our viewers interview their grandparents, parents, spouse or friend or collect their story from other sources. Send it in to us by e-mail (to familylegacies@seniorhome.com), in about 500 words (that's about one single-spaced piece of 8.5' x 11' paper) or less. If possible, scan one photo and attach it to your e-mail, or send it by regular mail to: SeniorHome.com c/o: 102 - 5622, 16th Avenue, Delta, BC V4L 1G7. (If you require return of your photos, please send us a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Sorry, but we can not be responsible for items lost or damaged in the mail).

Be sure to clearly indicate the family name you'd like us to archive your material under, and the name(s) of the senior(s) featured in your material. We'll load and store it in this division of our database (no charge!) and it will be viewable by searching from this division homepage, by the senior's last and first names. It's a great way to pay tribute to a special senior in your life, perhaps at their birthday, anniversary or other special occasion.

(SECURITY: We ask that parents edit their childrens' contributions to SeniorHome.com, to ensure that no confidential or private information is revealed in their son's or daughter's contribution that could either offend members of the family, or reveal the whereabouts or identity of their children.)

In the future, we intend to expand our Family Legacies service to seniors and their families, by creating a private on-line folder into which you and your family may submit further legacy material, to compile a family scrap-book of photos, stories and other memorabilia.

We'll have more on that for you, by e-mail and by notice posted here. If you'd like to be notified by e-mail when this service comes available, please e-mail your request to familylegacies@seniorhome.com. For now, please enjoy this division of SeniorHome.com and pay tribute to the wonderful seniors in your family circle!
