Glenna Eleanor Mary Moore Grant

Submitted by:  Dianne Almond

Glenna Eleanor Mary Moore Grant, my great-grandmother, was born on February 12th, 1909, in Montreal, Quebec. In 1933, at the age of 24 she married John J. Grant. They had four daughters, Eleanor, Elizabeth, Heather and Cathy. In 1946 they moved to Vancouver. She and Grandpa lived in Vancouver for 49 years until moving up to Ashcroft, B.C. She stayed there until 1997 when, upon the death of her husband, she decided to move back to Vancouver.

Grandma was a secretary and a housewife in her career. Some of her hobbies are sewing, knitting and writing. During World War II she rolled bandages for the Red Cross.

Grandma has done many exciting things in her life. Like the time she was presented to the Queen Mother. She says the queen had stunning beauty all dressed in blue, her favourite colour. And she knew Lucy Maude Montgomery, the writer of Anne of Green Gables. She has even flown a biplane! One of her favourite memories is when she drove to New York in a car that she and her brother, Earl, bought for $50.00 in 1927.

Yet out of all those exciting adventures her most memorable would have to be the time when she drove to Ottawa to see the Spirit of Saint Louie. In 1927 the Spirit of Saint Louie was the very first plane to fly the Atlantic with only one pilot, Charles Lindbergh.

I am proud to have Glenna Grant as my great-grandma.
